Socks without showing have become quite a brilliant invention of our time, especially in their field. They are an inch smaller than socks to the ankle and barely reach the foot, so there is a feeling when wearing shoes that they are not at all. But if they annoyingly strive to fly off your heel and you have to be distracted by bending down and pulling them up, then this slightly spoils the impression.
Why do you need invisible socks, if you still see them, and they bother you? How to get rid of this problem? How to keep no show socks from slipping? We will talk about this today in our article.
If you use the tips specially selected by us and passed more than one test, you will be able to easily keep the socks on your foot without being distracted by their constant tightening.
How to Keep Ankle Socks From Slipping
How to keep no show socks from slipping? The first thing you should pay close attention to so that socks without a show and socks on the ankles do not slip is to find out the reason why they do it. As soon as you can explore the whole essence of this process, you will already find a way to get rid of this problem and wear socks without showing comfortably.
If the socks do not slip, then you may have encountered one of the following problems:
- You have chosen the wrong size for no show socks from slipping. If you wear socks a size larger, they will quickly slip under the sole when walking or exercising. If you choose a smaller size, then the no show sock will tightly wrap around your heel.
- You are incorrectly combining shoes with show socks. It is unlikely that it will occur to you to buy wool socks for pumps or tie warm socks under the sneakers in which you run. You need to choose the right shoes to wear without no show socks from slipping, in order to wear them with proper comfort.
- A sock without a show incorrectly wraps around your leg. If you bought too low socks, they rub very much against the leg and as a result barely hold on to it, because of this they often slip off and cause a lot of inconvenience.
- You’ve been wearing your no show socks from slipping for too long. It would seem that socks do not have an expiration date set by the rules, but their elasticity is still affected by time and is lost every day. If the new socks fit snugly to the foot, then after a while you may notice that they lose this property. But do not rush to get rid of such socks, there are a lot of ways to get them back into service.
Now you know how to keep no show socks from slipping.
Why the Right Sock Type Matters
If we decided to study such a topic as how to protect socks from slipping, it is worth paying attention to two important points: the type of shoes that you wear and what you will do in them. Useful Tips: No More Slipping Socks!
No Show Socks For Dress Shoes
If you are used to following the latest fashion trends, and buy classic shoes, then you should choose a sock as thin as possible, and so that it tightly wraps around your leg. This rule applies to both women’s and men’s shoes, especially for dress versions. So the sock can easily be inside the shoe, without creating excessive friction. You need to overcome this enemy in any way. This way you will definitely not let the socks slip down and will wear them with proper comfort.
No Show Socks For Casual Shoes
This no show socks can go well with loafers, moccasins, topsiders, coins and various stickers. It will not be superfluous even if you want to wear shoes or lace-up shoes without socks, although we recommend wearing such shoes with classic socks or knee socks (the latter will be optimal if we are talking about suits or classic trousers).
We add that no show socks should be completely hidden in shoes. Sometimes there are very short socks that still stick out a little from the shoes, and we do not recommend buying this kind of model. However, real full-fledged “invisibles” can stick out a little, so you should not buy many pairs of the same model of socks at once if you have not worn it before.
Invisibles can be visible in the event that they are a little too big for you; in addition, the level of visibility of socks is influenced by the degree of openness of shoes (espadrilles, for example, are usually more open than topsiders, although some invisible socks are completely hidden in espadrilles… however, different espadrilles are cut differently, and some copies are very open).
Of course, there are models of shoes that should not be worn with invisible socks; it is better not to wear any no show socks at all with them. These are flip-flops / slates, flip-flops, sandals. In some cases, it is also better to wear the espadrilles mentioned above without such socks, but sometimes, if desired, you can wear socks if they are completely hidden in the espadrilles (and this, we repeat, does not always happen).
Most often, no show socks are made of cotton with various synthetic additives. The appearance of socks, the level of comfort, tactile sensations, breathability, durability depend on the proportions and the origin of the materials. High-quality invisible socks consist of at least 70% cotton, and this is long-fiber or extra-long-fiber cotton (in particular, Pima / Supima, Egyptian or Sea Island). A large proportion of synthetics is a sign of socks that are far from the highest level, but such models are still quite high-quality and durable (sometimes even very durable).
Occasionally you can find no show socks made of wool with the addition of synthetics (for example, the English brand Pantherella has models made mainly from the wool of merino sheep). Of course, they are thin, and since wool provides good thermoregulation and is characterized by breathability and hygroscopicity, such socks can be comfortable even in warm weather.
Since no show socks are completely hidden in shoes, they are often very bright, colorful, catchy. However, keep in mind that shoes sometimes have to be removed, so as a result, “invisible” can be perfectly visible. We would recommend giving preference to models of more or less classic colors — plain, striped or with some discreet ornament. Those socks that almost match the color of the shoes will be ideal — in this case, they will definitely not catch your eye if for some reason they “get out” a little. Someone may decide to give preference to flesh-colored models.
We should add that almost all no show socks are equipped with a kind of heel holders — silicone strips or other inserts that fix the socks on the heel. The effectiveness of these devices varies from low to high, and it depends not only on their design features, but also on how well the socks fit you in size and cut. We recommend purchasing no more than two pairs of identical invisible socks at the same time, if you have not previously worn the corresponding models.
Here it is worth saying that some brands of no show sock (for example, Uniqlo) produce invisible socks only in one “universal” size, which, of course, is not so universal at all (it fits perfectly for someone, it is bad for someone).
There are also manufacturers offering such socks in two, three or four sizes — and often the presence of three or four sizes is one of the indicators of a good level of products.
Another nuance: the front seats on some invisible socks are completely flat and are performed either manually using traditional devices, or on special machines that have become increasingly popular in recent years. The corresponding feature is often referred to by the term hand linked toes. For some, it is important because of a higher level of comfort, but there are people who do not attach importance to it and almost do not feel the difference.
How to Wash No Show Socks in a Washing Machine
It is from improper washing that socks suffer the most. To begin with, sort the socks into white and colored, turn them inside out and shake out the dust and sand (if they are there). The fact is that socks get dirty more from the inside, and this is not only sweat, but also skin particles. And if the socks are not turned out, then your entire epidermis will remain inside a carefully washed sock. And not very well-colored socks, washed from the wrong side, will better retain the color.
If worn socks look like clean, then there is no point in soaking them, but you still need to wash them, you should not wear socks for several days in a row. After a walk in the forest in socks, gardening or a shift in a coal mine, it is better to soak socks in cool water with detergents for several hours. From hot water, the dirt will become stronger in the fibers forever. In addition, too hot water deforms the fabric, many washing powders lose their properties in it.
Socks require delicate handling, and hand washing can hardly be called gentle. If you are surprised now and exclaim “these are my delicate hands”, then just believe me-hand washing does not spare the fabric. Therefore, we wash socks in the washing machine in the “delicate washing” mode at a temperature of 30 degrees. Yes, cotton is washed at 40-60 degrees, but in high-quality cotton socks there is always a small addition of synthetics, so the experiment with temperature can end badly – the synthetics will shrink from temperature tortures and the sock will decrease by several sizes.
Life hack: by the way, this property is used by owners of miniature legs. When there are no socks of the right small size, you can buy bigger socks and wash them in hot water (60 degrees). Socks from hot baths do not lose color and elasticity, but the size 38-41 easily turns into 34-37. Tested for years….
If suddenly there was no washing machine at hand, then we soak not very dirty socks in detergent for an hour or two (we remind you – in cool water) and rinse thoroughly. Dirty socks are first soaked, then we change the water and clean the contaminated places. We don’t work very hard, because we remember about delicate washing. Washed socks cannot be wrung out, you need to let the water drain. By the way, it is better to wash in a special laundry bag.
Features of Washing White No Show Sock
Choose products for washing white underwear and use bleach without chlorine (socks do not like chlorine at all). Especially dirty places can be rubbed with household soap and soaked for several hours in water at room temperature before washing.
There are many folk remedies for bleaching. Cotton white socks can be soaked for 30 minutes with vinegar (1 teaspoon per 1 liter of water), for 2 hours with boric acid (1 tablespoon per liter of warm water) or for 2-3 hours with ammonia (2 tablespoons per liter). For bleaching synthetic socks, the above-mentioned laundry soap or soaking with lemon juice (1 tablespoon per liter of water) is suitable.
After such soaking, the socks will need to be rinsed before washing. You can whiten wool socks with hydrogen peroxide (1 tbsp. a spoon per liter of water) or ordinary soda (add a pinch to a basin of water). By the way, a spoonful of soda can be added to the compartment for the conditioner-rinse aid when washing wool socks.
How to Air Dry No Show Socks
No show sock does not like twisting and high temperatures, so they are washed in the “no spin” and “no drying” modes, so that the socks do not sit down and lose their shape. Washed socks should be hung on a rope, preferably in fresh air, but without direct sunlight. The water should drain naturally, no violent twisting. And no hot batteries, heaters and hair dryers!
For socks, this is death. If you need to dry your socks quickly, wrap them in a terry towel so that it absorbs water, and then dry them on a rope.
How And Where to Store No Show Socks
There are no strict rules regarding storage, these are not furs and leather, which require a special temperature regime. Recommendations for storage are, rather, a question of the convenience of organizing a wardrobe.
- Keep socks in pairs, so that in the morning rush you do not go to work in different socks. If socks of different colors are a feature of your image, then just skip this item.
- Keep socks separate from other small items of clothing (gloves, belts, underwear), so as not to look for a pair among all this variety.
- Do not store socks together with large things. They have an amazing ability to hide among T-shirts and get tangled in the sleeves of sweaters and the legs of trousers.
- Store socks in a limited space (in a separate drawer, on a small shelf, in special organizers).
- Do not put them on chairs, sofas or under the bed. They can get lost for a long time.
